What a start to the day!

This was a particularly interesting day for MeshCore in Florida. You can see in this map from dab-bot all the stations that have been heard from in the past day or two.

Before we get to the interesting stuff, lets take a moment for remembrance. Today is Sept. 11, 2026 and it is the 25th anniversary of the worst terrorist attack on the United States. Let’s all take a moment to remember all the people that perished that day in the planes that struck the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the forest in Pennsylvania. Remember those that were terrified–knowing that they were going to die–in the WTC and Pentagon. And especially remember all the first responders that ran into the dangerous situation attempting to save those that were trapped only to be caught up in the building coming down on top of them and paying the ultimate price. May we never forget all those stories from 25 years ago and provide comfort to those that are still living with the pain and hardships imposed on them from that day.

Starting about 2:00 AM this morning there was a significant tropospheric ducting that covered the entire area, probably nearly the entire state. Up until the early part of the morning (about 7:00 or 8:00 AM) a large part of the state was seeing traffic from the rest of the state. Up here in Volusia County we were able to chat with stations in South Florida and Tampa areas. We have had the occasional opening to parts of South Florida but it has been hard to hold a conversation with anyone down there. This morning packets were going everywhere and this was a much longer opening than normal.

There was one station in the Tampa area that was getting traffic from LA. No, that was was not Los Angeles, but Louisiana.

I have a feeling that this time of year the ducting becomes a little more common due to the heat and moisture in the air. It will be interesting to see if this continues over the next couple of weeks.
