MeshCore Channels

The following are the common MeshCore channels that can be found on the MeshCore network in Volusia county.

Channel NameDescription
PublicThis is the standard Public channel that is found everywhere. It is used as a hailing / general discussion channel.
#testUsed for testing one’s connectivity. It is preferred to use this channel rather than clutter the Public channel with “can anyone hear me” messages. If you are heard, a bot will acknowledge you.
#volusiaUsed for county wide discussions. Many times these discussions are occurring in Public. In the future a region code may be used to keep this channel in the county.
#floridaNot really used today, but as the network grows this channel is targeting state wide communications. Region codes will likely be used for this channel also.
WestVARSMembers of the WestVARS club can chat with one another over this private channel. If you are a member of the WestVARS club, please contact the secretary for the key.
DBARAMembers of the DBARA club can chat with one another over this private channel. If you are a member of the DBARA club, please contact the secretary for the key.
#emergencyIf there is a local or state wide incident, you can expect to find latest information in this channel. May also have active comms during a deployment or relief operation, so please be mindful/considerate if you see an operation happening.
Volusia ARESThis is a private channel for the ARES group in Volusia. If you are a member of the ARES team, please contact the EC for access to the key.
#wxWeather related communications. There is a daily forecast posted at 6:00 AM (local) and any NWS alerts are also posted in near real time.
#botOne can find bots in this channel and it is used to interact with the bots. Currently the only known bot is dab-bot.

This certainly may not be a comprehensive list of channels, but it will get you started if you are new to MeshCore.

If you know of other channels that are used that are not listed here, please help the community out by submitting information about the channel either to hickey@kinetic-compute.com or as a comment to this page.
